For over two decades, the Tree Board for the Village of Amherst has highlighted our nation's Arbor Day Celebration with a proclamation ceremony and a tree planting activity. This year, the Tree Board is again happy to observe this special day with the 5th grade students and their teachers from Amherst Middle School. The program will take place on April 25 at 1 p.m., and will be conducted in Guyant Park. The 2019 program will include the reading of the Village of Amherst's Arbor Day Proclamation, group presentations by the 5th grade students, an educational presentation related to tree care, the planting of a number of trees by the 5th graders, and then completed with tree cookies provided by the Amherst High School Family and Consumer Education (FACE) department. Village staff member Travis Stuczynski and Don Kissinger of the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources will provide assistance and instruction during the program. A special presentation will also take place to honor Sally Prideaux, who was recently recognized by the Wisconsin Urban Forestry Council with their 2019 Distinguished Service Award for her long-term commitment and effort in the development, expansion and maintenance of the trees within the Village of Amherst.
