by The Amherst Elementary School Read Across America Committee
On Friday, March 2, the Read Across America Day Committee at Amherst Elementary School is sponsoring a celebration in honor of the 114th birthday of Theodor Seuss Geisel. He is better known to most as Dr. Seuss, the author of The Cat in the Hat and many other children’s books. This nationwide celebration of reading is called Read Across America. Its goal is to have every child in every community reading with a caring adult for at least 15 minutes on this day.
We would like you to join our celebration. On Friday, March 2, we are seeking community volunteers to come into a classroom and read a story to our students. You may bring a favorite children’s book, request a book from the elementary library, or choose one from our school library on that day.
We want to spark a renewed passion for reading among children and concerned adults. Please consider sharing 15-30 minutes of your time on Friday, March 2, with the children at Amherst Elementary School.
If you are interested, please call Kristen Zastrow at 824-5523 ext. 446 and provide your name, telephone number and the time you are available to read to students. Also indicate if you have an age preference you would prefer. Volunteers will be contacted in late February to confirm times and classroom assignments. Thank you.
