Lettie W. Jensen Community Center Celebrates 30 Years

The Lettie W. Jensen Community Center in Amherst invites the public to join them in celebrating their 30th Anniversary on Saturday, November 11.

For the past 30 years, the Lettie W. Jensen Community Center has been an important part of the Tomorrow River area community. Weddings, memorials, conferences, meetings, concerts, musicals, senior meals, fitness classes, and much more take place in the spacious facility.

In 1986, the family of Lettie W. Jensen generously presented a gift of one million dollars to the Tomorrow River communities for the construction and operation of a community center. The Amherst Area Foundation, Inc., is charged with overseeing both the day-to-day operation of the Lettie W. Jensen Community Center and the management of the endowment funds. Fundraisers, rental fees, advertising income from the Community Spirit newspaper, and donations provide the remaining operating income. The Center officially opened in August 1988, providing excellent accommodations including a community room, kitchen, game room, and meeting rooms. The theater addition opened in November of 1994. The Center is intended not so much as a showcase, but as a place of strength and permanence where the community can come together with purpose and to have fun.

The Tom McComb Trio will perform during the social hour that begins at 5 p.m. with appetizers and assorted beverages followed by dinner and presentations at 6 p.m. The evening includes special recognition of the 2017 Person of the Year as well as past awardees. There will also be reminiscences of accomplishments, and the people and area businesses that were an integral part of the history of the Center.

Due to limited seating, purchasing tickets in advance is highly encouraged. Tickets are $16 and may be purchased online at lettiejensencenter.org, or, during office hours: Monday through Thursday from 9 - 4:30, Fridays from 9 until noon at the Jensen Community Center.
