Hidden Studios Art Tour Donates $900 to River Friends

The artists of Hidden Studios Art Tour donated over $900 of sales proceeds to the Friends of the Tomorrow Waupaca River. According to Friends board member Susan Wurzer, “These funds will go a long way in helping us in our mission to protect and improve the Tomorrow watershed. We have some new initiatives to roll out in 2020 that this donation will make possible.”

The Art Tour coincides with peak fall colors and annually draws hundreds of art patrons into the studios of local artists. This year some 18 artists were featured at seven studios lying between New Hope and Almond, working in media from wood to glass to ceramic, paint and more. Paul Klein, one of this year’s studio hosts explained “A goal of the artists is to build community. We chose to donate to the Friends this year because of the community they build around the Tomorrow River and its watershed. The waters and forests and fish and wildlife of this area are a big part of why we live here, inspire the artist’s work and why art patrons visit.”

The Friends of the Tomorrow Waupaca River members engage in activities that include an annual river cleanup, picking up trash and cutting a navigable channel through downed timber, advocating for water friendly policies at the local and state level, monitoring water quality and taking on various initiatives to raise awareness about the importance of water conservation efforts. This year the Friends promoted the State of the Tomorrow River report, that can be found at https://www.co.portage.wi.us/home/showdocument?id=24600
