On August 27, Amherst’s Own Child Care (AOCC) celebrated 30 years of serving our area families with exceptional care for children ages 6 weeks to 12 years. Many of the families bring their children to the center that they attended when they were young because they have personally experienced the quality of care.
If you’re around Amherst during the day, you’ve likely seen a parade of youngsters with their caregivers walking downtown. This walk-about is part of the three hours of fresh-air play incorporated into the full-day of child-focused instruction, which also includes at least 90 minutes of self-directed play. Children are given ample opportunity to creatively express themselves in their play, art, music, and problem solving every day.
With so many families raising children while both parents work, AOCC, a non-profit corporation, fills an important need in our community by focusing on the whole child with child-centered instruction and developmentally appropriate practices.
