The 7th Graders of Amherst Middle School had the opportunity to pick the brain of one of the nation’s lawmakers just 60 minutes after the Congressional Republicans delivered their first major legislative accomplishment as the new Tax Bill passed the House of Representatives with a narrow 224-201 margin on December 20.
Representative Ron Kind (D), carved out a half-hour of his time after casting his vote on the House Floor to chat with the 7th Graders about a wide variety of topics, from the recently-passed Tax Bill to his college football career, from bipartisanship and the lawmaking process to President Obama’s ability to sing and shoot three-pointers.
Rep. Kind had this to say on his Facebook and Twitter pages about the 30-minute conversation:
“Had a great time Skyping with the 7th Grade class at Amherst Middle School. I always enjoy talking to the next generation of leaders. As I always say, a future President could be sitting in that classroom!”
The 7th Graders recently wrapped up learning about the Legislative Branch and the lawmaking process on December 20 and will transition into focusing on the Executive Branch at the beginning of January.
